Lunch & Recess Volunteer Information

Picture

Thank you for volunteering your time during Hilton’s Lunch & Recess!

Sign in at the Hilton office and report to the cafeteria. Visit our homepage for links to the monthly sign ups.

Lunch Duty

Volunteers will wear an apron with unwrapped items like napkins and loose utensils in a plastic bag, wrapped items such as condiments and straws).  The lunch servers can review which condiments you need that day and how many the children can have.

When the children arrive, they will raise their hands if they need assistance (opening cartons, needing napkins, straws).

Once Mrs. Popielarczyk dismisses a class, the lunch volunteers then clean the tables and benches before the next group arrives.

See Paul Cramer or Connie Popielarczyk to go over procedures and have them show you how to use the table cleaners.

Lunch Rules and Expectations

The following are rules and expectations we have for all our children during lunch:
  1. Students must remain seated at all times unless given permission by an adult to use the bathroom, throw something in the trash, and/or line up.
  2. Students cannot change seats during lunch.
  3. Students MUST NOT share food or lend money.
  4. NO RUNNING IN THE CAFÉ.
  5. Students must use an “indoor voice.”
  6. Students must raise their hands for assistance (opening ketchup packets, etc.)
  7. All students MUST clean up their area BEFORE lining up.
  8. Once students are in the hallway, there is NO talking.

Recess Duty

Sign in at the office and then wait in the hallway for the first group to go out for recess.  Follow group out.

On the playground, it is important to circulate amongst the children.  You may be asked to tie shoes, to give a push on the swing, throw a ball, etc.  You may also need to remind children of the recess safety rules.

Once a group lines up to go inside, Ms. Chalupa and Ms. D’Agostino will walk the kids inside.  The parent volunteers will wait on the playground for the next group to arrive.

See Karen Chalupa or Kathy D’Agostino to go over expectations.

Indoor Recess Rules and Expectations

The following are rules and expectations we have for all our children during indoor recess:
  1. Students must play quietly (not silently) in the classroom.
  2. Encourage students to play cooperatively.
  3. Students cannot visit other classrooms.
  4. (For third graders only—students must ask an adult for permission to use the bathroom.)
  5. NO RUNNING, CHASING, OR PLAYING TAG IN THE CLASSROOM
  6. Opening teachers’ desks is NOT permitted during indoor recess.
  7. If students do not wish to play, encourage them to participate in another activity such as drawing, reading, etc.
