Web Site Maintenance Instructions

This page gives some details about maintaining the Weebly web site and should be kept hidden from the public.

General

Headings are implemented such that while in design mode, they will appear in mixed case (e.g. "Heading Title") but when published, they will appear in all uppercase ("HEADING TITLE").  The uppercase headings grab attention a bit more.  They are mixed case in design mode to ensure that they are entered properly while designing in case they are switched to mixed case when published in the future.

When creating new pages, always use the Short Header page template.  It should use the common rotating banner.

Home Page

The single root home page is set up to use the Home page template.  This special template is made only for the root home page and should not be used anywhere else.  It has special functionality that kicks in with certain design scenarios.

The rules for events/programs are that they can optionally contain a single primary link, which spans the title of the event/program.  The link can be to a related flyer or to a related page that has more detailed information (create as needed).  Never put additional links in the item descriptions on the home page since the goal is to keep everything simple.

Additionally, events/programs are not allowed to contain more than 3 lines of text.  This is intended to only keep the most important facts listed on the home page.

The easiest way to create an event/program date item is to hover over an existing one, then click on the icon button on the upper left.  It will show a Move/Copy menu.  Click Copy and choose this page.  The item should be duplicated.  Then use the gripper and move it into position.

If you need to create an event/program from scratch, the process is a bit complicated but is necessary for the style sheets to render the agenda sort of view for each item.  First add a Text item to the list.  Then in the item, type our the event info like "DEC 20 Holiday Class Parties at 2pm."  Bold the day number "20" only in "DEC 20".  Select the "DEC 20" and increase its font size several times until you see the gray background box appear.  Select the event title (e.g. "Holiday Class Parties"), bold it, and increase its font size a couple times.  Add a link to that text as required.

The home page also has an interesting feature where whenever it finds text that is bright red in color, the style sheets will swap it out and put a "NEW!" icon in its place in the published version.  To add this type "New!" at the start of any Notes item or right before an event/program title.  Select the "New!" text and change the text color to be bright red (#FF0000).  It will still appear as text while in design mode but will be replaced by fancier the "NEW!" icon when published.

For events, try to sort them by date.  For programs, try to sort them by end date.  Or if the item is more related to the registration required for a program, sort it by that instead.

The PSO makes hundreds of dollars each year from Recycling

Please bring your paper and cardboard to the yellow and green dumpsters in the back of the parking lot - it's that easy!

Acceptable products include: newspapers/inserts, magazines, catalogs, mail, office and school paper, envelopes (with and without windows), paperback books, phone books, poster board, flat cardboard, construction paper, chip board, paperboard (cereal boxes) and soda cartons. Please do not bring items with food on it.

By recycling, not only do you save water and energy, but our school earns money for every pound of paper you help us collect! Tell your family, your friends and your neighbors and add recycling at Hilton to your weekly errand route. Bins are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Membership Notes

This link gives direct access to sign someone up for the Constant Contact lists.  It can be used in cases where PSO Membership is collecting money and wants people to enter their info directly into a computer/tablet screen.  This way we can avoid having to reenter the info into CC later on.

Who Are We?

The Hilton PSO (Parent-School Organization) is a group of parents and teachers who work to support the school by organizing events, providing recognition to students/teachers, coordinating volunteer efforts in the school, and raising money for special school projects. Our goal is to enhance the education of each student at Hilton.
